Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Endorses Marc Veasey in CD33 Key endorsement builds upon Veasey momentum

Today, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announced her support for the election of Marc Veasey in new Congressional District 33, emphasizing that Veasey is a candidate voters and colleagues can trust. Congresswoman Johnson represents CD30 which, until the creation of new CD33, was the only minority opportunity district in Texas north of San Antonio. She’s widely considered one of the most influential and effective elected officials in North Texas. Last Tuesday, Congresswoman Johnson easily won a contested primary by garnering over 70 percent of the vote. New CD33 and Johnson’s CD30 share adjacent boundaries in Dallas County.

“I’m very pleased to endorse my good friend Representative Marc Veasey for election to Congress in new Congressional District 33. Marc has earned my respect, trust and support, just as he has voters all across District 33. Marc Veasey is running a strong, positive campaign that inspires and motivates voters. He has the skills and temperament to build coalitions and to effectively represent the diverse neighborhoods that make up the new congressional district. Marc understands the importance of protecting jobs at Lockheed, GM and American Airlines and I look forward to working with Marc here and in Washington to create more North Texas jobs and defend the interests of working families.”

Veasey emerged from the May 29th primary as the clear frontrunner in new CD33 running first in the crowded 11 candidate field and running more than 10 percentage points ahead of controversial second place finisher Domingo Garcia. New CD33 is a minority coalition district that includes large parts of both Tarrant and Dallas counties. In the May 29th Primary, Veasey dominated the vote in his home base in Tarrant County while also winning significant support in Dallas County. The endorsement of Congresswoman Johnson – arguably the most popular Democratic elected official in the north Texas region – builds significantly upon Veasey’s momentum as the run-off election gets underway.

Thanking Congresswoman Johnson for her support, Veasey said, ”I am very proud to receive the endorsement of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. She is an iconic figure and a role model. Her commitment to public service is unmatched. I will continue working hard to justify her confidence in our campaign as we work to earn the trust and support of voters across District 33.”
